Dr. Deepak Kumar Ojha was born in the Rohtas district of Bihar, where he completed his schooling. He earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Sathyabama University, Chennai, in 2009, followed by an M.E. in Chemical Engineering from BITS Pilani, K.K. Birla Goa Campus, in 2012.

He pursued his Ph.D. at IIT Madras under the guidance of Prof. R. Vinu, focusing on the fundamental understanding of lignocellulosic material valorization using pyrolysis. After completing his Ph.D. in 2017, he moved to the University of Minnesota for postdoctoral research, working with Prof. Edward Cussler, Prof. Paul Dauenhauer, and Prof. Alon McCormick. His postdoctoral research was centered on developing novel processes for ammonia synthesis.

In 2020, Dr. Ojha joined IIT Roorkee as an Assistant Professor. His research group, the Sustainable Engineering Research Group, is dedicated to exploring renewable-based materials and chemicals, focusing on pyrolysis technology, biofuel production, pyrolysis oil post-processing, and electrocatalytic processes for green ammonia synthesis.
